This small but difficult design task consisted in extending the existing, single-family single-family house covered with shingle, and proposing a new, contemporary architectural form for the pool space.
The house has been enlarged with traditional wooden verandas whose purpose is to enlarge and illuminate the interior of the house. The existing, shading terrace, after rebuilding into the veranda, will gain a glazed roof lighting up the living room.
The pool building has been designed so as not to compete with the existing building. Its linear form is related to the existing building in combination materials. A simple, minimalist form with a flat, opening roof refers to the eaves of an existing building, opens with a transparent, mobile facade to the space of the house and garden, while from the north it is an intimate partition providing a sense of intimacy to the users.
The connector integrating the house with the pool was treated in a creative way. It is the space of a winter garden, which in the summer time will act as an open, roofed terrace, filled with greenery and garden furniture. Thanks to this treatment, we not only regained the lost space of the existing roofed terrace in place of which a new veranda will be created, but most of all we created a transparent, imperceptible in the summer period connector, thanks to which the house will functionally and optically remain a free-standing object. The existing salon, enlarged by a designed veranda, will gain a spectacular, prestigious axis connecting the house with a year-round swimming pool.
